“Stereo Planetary Landscapes – BelenStation” is a SCIENCE, ART AND TECHNOLOGY project that explores what life would be like on exoplanets, worlds unexplored and undiscovered. (2015)
This project was the winner of the SPACE ART Grant, Instituto Distrital de las Artes – IDARTES and the Planetario de Bogotá, developed within the framework of participatory creation processes, aimed at the community of the Belén neighborhood and the artistic and scientific community of Bogotá.
These exoplanet generating machines were developed in the science, art and technology laboratory called Astronomía Periférica_Estación Belén, located in the Belén neighborhood, one of the most traditional neighborhoods in the historic center of Bogotá. There, for two months, 8 exoplanetary scientists between 6 and 12 years old explored these exoplanets, observed their changes, recorded videos and analyzed their characteristics, making a process of scientific analysis that had as a starting point two questions:
- What will happen to life on the EXOPLANET MITCH_MAT_S for two months, if it is affected by a microwave radiation star?
- What will happen to EXOPLANET B-LEN during two months if it is affected by an ultraviolet radiation star?
In this installation there was a 3D anaglyph projection, where you could see how the EXOPLANETS B-LEN and MITCH_MAT_S, changed during two months affected by the radiation of their mother star to which they orbit. To see this projection it was necessary to use anaglyph glasses (Blue and red 3D glasses), and thus live a unique experience in a journey through UNIMAGINABLE PLANETARY ATMOSPHERES.
